It's JULY! How is your summer? Enjoying the sun, sea, coffee takeaways in the park, dinners with friends, or still stuck at home and looking forward to the world after the pandemic? In any case, I hope that you are enjoying this summer!
For me, summers are always a little confusing. On one hand, I'm more than ready to create new designs and make jewellery. On the other hand, we are traveling with my family every weekend. So every Monday it's hard to roll into the working week and every Friday is a packing day.. Even more, yesterday we started a bathroom renovation, so those who have done renovation works, can understand how much time that takes.. :) don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, I'm just trying to be here and there and now.. :D sometimes it's difficult to balance it all emotionally :)
Anyway.
Today I wanted to tell you some interesting facts about precious GEMSTONE RUBY because it's a JULY BIRTHSTONE.
- Ruby is one of 4 precious gemstones (Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire and Diamond). Ruby measures 9 out of 10 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness. For me, it means that it is easier to fix it in jewellery, as it has a higher resistance to scratches. For you – lifetime quality and joy :)
- Ruby symbolises power and protection, love and wisdom, passion and health. It’s a perfect gemstone for an engagement or a wedding ring.
- Rubies glow due to ultraviolet rays (try to play with it in the sun and notice how it makes you feel)
- Inclusions in rubies are tolerated. Although they are not well appreciated in the gemstone industry, small inclusions can enhance the beauty of the gemstone.
- The most desirable shade of ruby is deep red with blue hints, so-called "Pigeon Blood"
- Beautiful red Ruby is made of corundum (little science from Wiki - Corundum is a crystalline form of aluminum oxide (Al2O3) typically containing traces of iron, titanium, vanadium and chromium.) Depending on the amount of chemical element, corundum can be found in different colors and it's classified as sapphire. Only red corundum with traces of chromium has a different name. It is called Ruby.
- Quality Ruby with weight more than 10 carats will cost more than a similar diamond. The most expensive ruby ever sold was the "Hope Ruby" which weighs 32.08 carats and was sold for $6.74 million.
- First rubies were discovered in Myanmar back in 600AD and Myanmar is still one of the leading markets for ruby mining.
I hope you enjoyed the few facts about the beautiful red precious stone ruby.
Next month – August with Peridot.
Ruby is also my birthstone. But it appears I have no red color in my wardrobe! Should I worry about it? J
Maybe it’s time to treat myself to something... red..
